I recommend a Synology 2 bay NAS with a couple 2TB NAS drives as they have a decent price point. I currently run 2 Synology at home and 2 Synology Rack NAS at work. Of them all i like the QNAP and Synology ones for there features and security levels.

I have used D-Link NAS, Seagate NAS, QNAP Systems, Inc, NAS, Patriot NAS and Synology NAS. If its just file sharing/storing I would say that the Buffalo NAS would suffice. If you want more features, storage, management, the Synology NAS would be a great fit. I think both will work will for your scenario. I picked up the Synology NAS and the 4 hard drives for around $1,000 as a bundle and I personally believe that it was a solid deal. I haven't had to configure the NAS for anything other than a file server so I can't go into detail on the other features offered. I have yet to have a complaint about this NAS as it offers a good deal of security options and additional applications depending on your needs. The speed at which the settings are applied is not favorable either.Ĭurrently I work with a Synology DS920 plus.

One of the downsides to this unit I found is that making changes such as creating users or changing permissions will cause the Buffalo NAS to disconnect any signed on users. the Linkstation is a 2 bay NAS that supports shared folders and RAID 1. I've worked with the Buffalo LinkStation 220 (LS220D series) and it worked just fine supporting around 20 users.
